Laser Hair Removal in London - Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Laser Hair Removal Process?
Energy is produced by our laser, which releases this energy in small measured amounts against the skin. This energy reaches the hair follicles under the skin and the roots of the hair are heated safely which destroys the hair without affecting the tissue around it.

How exactly does the laser work?
Our laser releases very controlled and measured amounts of energy which is absorbed by pigment in the hair and the hair follicles under the skin.

Is laser hair removal safe?
The Premier Laser Clinic uses laser technology which produces just enough light to destroy hair follicles so is safe and there have been no reported issues in the last decade.

What does the patch test consist of?
A patch test is the treatment of a small area of your skin to decide the most suitable level of laser treatment. Our highly trained staff will analyse the results and advise on the best course of treatments for your skin type.

Will you tell me if my skin type is suitable for laser hair removal?
Our laser consultants will always advise you on the best course of treatment as not all hairs are suitable for laser hair removal. Laser hair removal technology targets the colour (pigment) in your hair and it cannot find grey, white and red hairs. Our consultants will be able to give you their professional advice.

Is one session enough?
There are three stages if hair growth and 90% of hair are at the active growth stage, this is the stage that laser hair removal can target. Therefore several sessions will be required to ensure that we are able to removal the hair folicles – usually between four to eight sessions.

How often do I need the sessions?
We suggest that each session takes place about every six weeks, this is because it can take this long for hairs that are removed by the laser to grow back and for us to catch it at the next growth stage but our consultants will be able to give you more definitive time frames.

Will I feel any pain?
The Candela laser system is a world class laser technology and incorporates a cooling device integrated into the system which requires no other gels or liquids. The feeling can be compared to a small hot or cold sting.

What are the side effects?
You may experience some minor redness or swelling after each course which normally recovers after just a few hours. For more sensitive it can take a few days, but there are no long term side effects.

What should I avoid before and during my treatment course?
Try to keep the skin as natural as possible, avoiding sun exposure, sun beds or self-tanning products, skin peeling products like glycolic acid (AHA creams) and Retin-A cream. Also be sure to tell us if you have been taking any tablets for acne such as Roaccutane, which must be discontinued prior to treatment. During your consultation, we'll review any medications or supplements that you are currently taking to help determine the appropriate fluency for your treatment.

What should I do after the treatment?
The following should be avoided after the treatment:

    Hot baths, showers, or saunas.

    Swimming

    Cardiovascular exercise

Perfume, body lotions, after-shave or makeup.
